When Deborah McNaulty and Andre Larrimore were warned by their physicians that they were in danger of heart disease and diabetes, they took action.

McNaulty, 61, joined fitness classes and set aside the salt shaker in favor of other spices and healthier seasoning.

Larrimore, upon the recommendation of a friend, started working out daily at the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA.
